HKA off to Norwich for Hovo’s Full Contact fight
Hovo one of HKA's fighters got into to the ring for his second fight as a kickboxer.
After travelling 140 miles to Norwich, Hovo's opponent weighed in too light, meaning his fight was re-matched against a local man with 9 fights under his belt, and giving away 5 kgs in weight.
Although on paper it would be a mis-match, Instructor Carl Denne had faith in Hovo’s ability and both happily accepted the challenge.
From the very first bell, Hovo came out fighting like a true pro and dominated his man. Hovo, being faster and stronger at every point put his opponent down twice in the first round, coming on strong in the second round his opponent needed a stoppage to beat Hovo. Hovo turned up the heat and dropped his man with a perfect jumping spinning round house. The ref stepped in and stopped the bout.
Hovo secured his second win and is now starting to create waves in the ISKA world. HKA's Instructor Carl Denne feels that within a year he will have a title shot.
Carl Denne said '' I'm extremely happy with Hovos win and his fighting ability as I really feel he will go far in the world of Kickboxing''

HKA Attends Battle of Kent 6
Hastings Kickboxing Academy produces another great record with 3 wins and 1 draw.
Carl Denne took 4 of his best fighters to Club 442 in Gillingham for the 2nd semi contact show of the year.
First into the ring was Amy Campbell with a record of 4 fights and 4 wins. The pressure grows for her to shine but as always showing what a great fighter she is becoming by taking an easy win over her strong opponent. Amy is looking at turning full contact later this year.
Next Mark Briton stepped into the ring matched against Hastings local man Mick from AKA Karate. Both fighters had trained together in mixed club training and with a tough 3 rounds, both seemed well matched. Mark was to come out the winner, securing yet another win to his belt and for the club.
For Lewis Gaster this was his first time in the ring for HKA. Stomping a great 3 found floorless show dominating the whole fight. Lewis was able to practice some techniques and re-find his ring craft after having been out the ring for a few years.
Alex Coane was up against a strong local opponent. He battled hard throughout the whole contest but wasn’t quite strong enough in the 3rd. 6ft 3” Alex used his great reach to eventually wear his fighter down and finish in a draw for the club.
Coach Ian Jarvis who helped Carl with warming up the fighters and getting them ready for there bouts said “At HKA we train very hard and with Carls mixture of fun, well educated classes, constant hard work and dedication to the club, it gives the club the victories we receive.”
Carl was once again very happy with how everyone from the club performed at the weekend coming away with nearly a floorless set of results. Everybody works hard at the gym hopes this continues throughout the year.
On April the 17th HKA are starting there first female only self-defence situation avoidance seminar. Taylor made to help females of East Sussex grow there self confidence and learn some new skill in self defence.

On the panel assessing the group were Instructors Carl Denne and Adam Denne.

Lyndsey Ashby went for her Orange sash but had to pull out as she has a strained knee and it was decided she would not carry on as it was unwise to cause more damage.

HKA’s coach Ollie Hancock and team mate Hovo step into the ring
HKA’s coach Ollie Hancock and team mate Hovo step into the ring for their first time as full contact fighters on February 28th at Amadeus night club in Kent.
First to kick off the evening was Ollie, walking into the ring with a lot of pressure on his shoulders and with his disability had a lot to prove to him-self and the on looking crowd.
Ollie’s opponent came out fast and strong landing some good shots, but after weathering the first 30 seconds, Olli found his feet and started to kick back. Slowing his opponent and hurting his fighter after landed a few great shoots. Ollie realised he’d hurt his man so went on the attack landed a perfect round house to his opponents mid section sending him crumbling to his knees with only 2 seconds left leaving his opponent unable to continue. Ollie Wins with a first round stoppage.
Ollie only having one arm shocked the crowd, showing everyone that disability should never stop you to follow your dreams.
Next to step up for HKA was Hovo with a very hard well matched first fight. Taking a few minutes to warm into the fight, relaxed Hovo, turned up the pace in the second only to overwhelm his man throughout the 3rd round.
Hovo did a lot of his training in Thai-boxing last year, found it hard to make the change from Thai to kickboxing, loosing 2 points in the 3rd round for grappling and giving the decision a lucky draw.
Instructor Carl said “I’m very proud of both my guys as getting into the ring full contact is a huge thing and it takes a lot to make this step. Also thanks to the 30 strong HKA guys and girls who train and come alone to support our fighters”.
HKA is currently growing day by day with their Brand new Kickboxing Academy up on Castleham industrial estate. For more info on kickboxing and the new gym Please contact Carl on 07949 221946 or contact us.

After a quick warm up there was no wasting time going straight into 16 two Minutes rounds of semi heavy sparring...
Carl says "This is a great opportunity for my club members and anyone else who joins in on these sessions to spar and practice against other fighters as every club teaches different techniques in attack and defence".
Coaches Andy and Ollie said “this is a great learning curve as it takes us out of our comfort zone and pushes us harder making us greater competitors.”
